MISSION

I create cultures of inclusivity in educational organizations.


This looks like:

- Creating or redesigning curriculum through a collaborative process, with the goal of providing many pathways and options for learning via Universal Design for Learning

- Coaching teachers in co-constructing class communities with students, including structure, language, tools and strategies, and environment design

- Providing workshops and professional development opportunities for teachers and administration that cover social and emotional development, language development, identity-awareness, and promoting self-regulation, independence, and autonomy for learners


about Kate

Kate Friedman has been studying the field of learning for the past 20 years as an educator, learner, and observer. Her experiences have led her to believe that public education can be re-imagined by blending self-directed learning with traditional curriculums via Universal Design for Learning.  

Kate seeks out opportunities that challenge notions about people of all abilities, art and art materials, and what it means to be part of a community. 

Kate teaches graduate classes at Bank Street College, where she holds a Dual Masters in Early Childhood Special and General Education. Kate also teaches online classes through Skillshare. 

A few times a year Kate can be found riding her bicycle around the world while exploring other cultures and education systems.

One thing that stays with me are the notes that Prof. Friedman took about her own content as we had class. After viewing a few videos of women with autism Prof. Friedman noted, out loud, that she had not included any male perspectives. She apologized and we moved on. This was something I would never have noticed if Kate hadn’t been so transparent. I think it was a wonderful way to show us as students where improvements in inclusion can be made by even the most inclusive professor.

Our family was extremely fortunate to have Kate be our son’s kindergarten teacher.
